Baku Woman on Trial for Ordering Brutal Killing of Husband

A shocking murder case has gripped Baku as the city’s Grave Crimes Court continues hearings in the trial of Aziza Seyidova, accused of ordering the killing of her husband, Ali Seyidov.

Three other defendants – Mehdi Mammadli, Elvin Aliyev, and Bakhtiyar Farzaliyev – are charged as alleged accomplices.

According to Oxu.Az, the latest hearing, chaired by Judge Roman Alekperli, included emotional testimony from the victim’s mother, Paridjahan Seyidova.

“When I arrived, my son was bleeding – he had been stabbed three times. They married for love but often quarreled because of jealousy,” she told the court.

The witness also claimed she once found rat poison in her son’s home, suspecting an earlier attempt to harm him.

“I threw it away without telling anyone,” she said – a revelation that stunned the court.

The victim’s brother, Ayaz Seyidov, said he rushed outside after hearing noise on the day of the attack but saw no one. The victim’s father, Yashar Seyidov, demanded the harshest punishment for those responsible.

The next hearing is scheduled for November 3.

The killing took place on March 15, 2023, in the Mashtaga settlement of Baku’s Sabunchu district. According to investigators, the 23-year-old Aziza Seyidova allegedly conspired with Mehdi Mammadli to carry out the murder.

Court documents state that the attackers ambushed Ali Seyidov near his home and stabbed him 23 times, killing him instantly.

Seyidova has been charged under several articles of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code, including organizing and inciting premeditated murder committed with particular cruelty, for hire, and by prior conspiracy. The other defendants face related charges of murder under aggravating circumstances.

At previous sessions, Seyidova denied her guilt, while the co-defendants admitted partial responsibility.
