Baku, August 28, 2025 — A disturbing case of domestic violence has shaken the Azerbaijani capital, where a 16-year-old boy allegedly killed his mother in a hotel room after an argument over her choice of clothing.
According to Oxu.Az, Esmet Gasimova, recently divorced, had returned to Baku from Turkey with her teenage son Ayxan Qasimli. The two checked into a hotel at the Baku International Bus Terminal complex for the night.
Reports indicate that tensions flared when the teenager objected to his mother wearing a mini skirt and shorts in Baku — outfits she had previously worn while living in Turkey. The dispute escalated violently, ending with the mother’s death.
Authorities have launched a criminal case, and the investigation is ongoing.
The case has caused widespread outrage, raising concerns over gender-based violence, deep-rooted cultural stereotypes, and the fatal consequences of controlling attitudes toward women’s freedoms.
