BAKU, July 19 — A taxi driver in Baku has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for blackmailing a female passenger after secretly recording their sexual encounter in his car.
According to Lent.az, the incident began when Hasan Akbarov (name changed), a married father of two, picked up Humay Guliyeva (name changed) for a routine ride from her home in Binagadi district to her workplace in Yasamal. Following the trip, Akbarov began texting and calling her, offering free rides.
That evening, intending to attend an iftar dinner in Icherisheher during the holy month of Ramadan, Guliyeva mistakenly called Akbarov instead of a regular taxi service. He picked her up, drove her to the event, and then offered to take her home. During the return trip, the two engaged in a sexual encounter in the back seat of his car.
Later that night, Akbarov video-called her and requested that she expose herself while wearing lingerie — a request she complied with. At the end of the call, he demanded 2,000 AZN for car repairs. When she refused and offered a much smaller amount, Akbarov began pressuring her for more money. After Guliyeva blocked his number, he contacted her from a different phone and sent her videos of their sexual encounter and video call, threatening to share them with her family and on social media.
Fearing public exposure, Guliyeva ended up transferring a total of 10,700 AZN to Akbarov over time. Eventually, she contacted law enforcement, and an investigation was launched.
Akbarov was arrested and charged under Article 182.2.4 of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code for extortion involving a significant amount. During his trial at the Baku Serious Crimes Court, presided over by Judge Azer Taghiyev, he was sentenced to six years and six months in a general-regime correctional facility.
