Baku, August 23 — As traffic congestion worsens in the Azerbaijani capital due to the growing number of private cars, authorities are moving ahead with plans to revive tram transport. According to transport expert Yasin Mustafayev, a new tram line is expected to connect suburban villages with the city center.
“Large-scale projects are already underway to optimize public transport in Baku. At the same time, there’s an information campaign encouraging residents to rely less on cars and more on public transit,” Mustafayev noted.
The Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency previously confirmed that the first tram lines will be introduced in two major residential districts — Mehdiabad and Sea Breeze. Both areas currently lack access to metro or rail connections, making tram service a vital addition to the city’s transport system.
