Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), part of AZCON Holding, is preparing to open direct flights between Baku and Bratislava following talks with Hungary’s Wizz Air on expanding air connectivity with Central and Eastern Europe.
Heydar Aliyev International Airport told Report that the meeting focused on launching the Baku–Bratislava route, as well as adding Bucharest (Romania) and Warsaw (Poland) to the carrier’s network. The sides also discussed the possibility of Wizz Air operating flights from Azerbaijan’s regional airports and reviewed potential basing models for aircraft.
Officials said the initiative is expected to boost tourism, business travel, and regional mobility by strengthening transport links across the country.
The first phase foresees the start of flights to Bratislava, Bucharest, and Warsaw in the near future.
Both AZAL and Wizz Air noted that significant progress has already been achieved on opening new routes, and further stages of cooperation will continue. The goal, they said, is to build a broader, more competitive, and more accessible route network that enhances Azerbaijan’s position in civil aviation regionally and globally.
