The first-ever consular consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom have been held in London, marking a new stage in bilateral cooperation on legal, migration, and humanitarian issues.
According to Report, the Azerbaijani delegation was led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the British side was represented by Sarah Taylor,
Director for Consular and Crisis Issues at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and Mark Clayton, Deputy Head of the Central Asia and Eastern Neighborhood Department.
The meeting was also attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to the UK Elin Suleymanov, as well as representatives from both countries’ foreign ministries, prosecutor’s offices, justice and education ministries, and migration and visa authorities.
During the consultations, the two sides reviewed the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations in the consular field, including the digitalization of services, protection of citizens’ rights, visa facilitation, and crisis management cooperation.
Both parties emphasized the importance of sharing best practices, strengthening ties in migration, education, justice, extradition, and mutual legal assistance in civil and criminal matters.
The next round of consular consultations will be held in Baku.
