Baku, July 13 – Azerbaijan’s U-16 national basketball team wrapped up their campaign at the FIBA U16 European Championship Division C with a victory, securing 5th place overall.
In Sunday’s placement match, the Azerbaijani squad defeated Moldova 79–72, capping off a tournament marked by both dominant wins and challenging setbacks.
During the group stage, Azerbaijan finished third, recording decisive victories over Gibraltar (69–40) and San Marino (105–60), while suffering losses to Andorra (42–52) and Luxembourg (38–86). The team bounced back in the playoffs, convincingly beating Malta 77–46 to earn a spot in the 5th-place game.
Despite missing out on the semifinals, the team’s strong finish demonstrated promise and growing potential within Azerbaijan’s youth basketball program.
