Azerbaijan’s Oscar Candidate Screens for Hollywood Audience

The feature film “Taghiyev: Oil,” produced by the Baku Media Center, has been presented in Los Angeles to members of the Hollywood film industry.

According to Report, the screening took place at Ross House, a well-known gathering venue for film professionals in the city. More than 100 guests attended the event. Following the showing, director Zaur Gasimli joined the audience for a Q&A session.

“Taghiyev: Oil” is Azerbaijan’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. The Academy is expected to announce its shortlist on December 16, 2025, followed by the full list of nominees on January 15, 2026. The awards ceremony will take place on March 15, 2026, in Los Angeles.

The film was produced by the Baku Media Center with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the Azerbaijan Film Agency (ARKA). Arzu Aliyeva served as executive producer, with Orman Aliyev as producer.

The film is directed by Zaur Gasimli, with a screenplay by Ismail Iman, Asif Iskanderli, and Gasimli. Cinematography is by Vladimir Artemyev; production design by Sabukhi Atababayev; costume design by Vusal Rahim; and music composed by Etibar Asadli.

The cast features celebrated Azerbaijani actors, including People’s Artist Parviz Mammadrzayev as Taghiyev, along with Honored Artists Gurban Ismayilov, Rasim Jafar, Elshan Rustamov, and Natavan Hajiyeva, among others.
