In addition to domestic production, the pipeline has also played a key role in handling transit oil. Over its operational period, BTC has transported 66.6 million tons of transit oil—making up 11% of the pipeline’s total throughput.

The BTC pipeline, officially inaugurated on July 13, 2006, at the Ceyhan terminal in Turkey, is a major component of the “Contract of the Century.” It provides Azerbaijan with direct access to global markets and continues to enhance the country’s energy security and strategic importance in the region.
