Azerbaijan’s Natural Gas Exports Climb in First Half of 2025, Boosting Economic Profile

Must read

BAKU, July 17 — Azerbaijan exported over 12.36 billion cubic meters of natural gas between January and June 2025, generating $4.54 billion in revenue, according to the latest data from the State Customs Committee.

The volume of exports grew by 4.56% year-on-year, while export value surged by 11.62% compared to the same period in 2024. The rise reflects both an increase in global gas prices and sustained demand from regional markets, particularly in Europe and neighboring countries.

Natural gas accounted for 35.27% of Azerbaijan’s total exports in the first half of the year, underscoring its continued role as a cornerstone of the national economy.

Analysts point out that this performance strengthens Azerbaijan’s position as a key energy supplier, especially amid ongoing concerns over European energy security and diversification of gas sources. The figures also illustrate Baku’s success in leveraging long-term supply contracts and investments in pipeline infrastructure such as the Southern Gas Corridor.

However, economists caution that heavy reliance on hydrocarbons continues to expose the country to global market volatility. While gas revenues support state budgets and infrastructure development, they also highlight the urgent need for economic diversification to ensure long-term resilience.
