Azerbaijan’s population spent 2.79 billion manats on motor gasoline and diesel fuel in retail outlets between January and September 2025, up 7.8% from the same period last year, according to data released by the State Statistics Committee.
Fuel purchases accounted for 6% of total consumer spending during the nine-month period.
Overall, retail trade turnover reached 46.42 billion manats, including 25.36 billion manats spent on food, beverages, and tobacco, and 21.06 billion manats on non-food products.
Compared to January–September 2024, total retail trade turnover in real terms grew by 3.7%, with food-related sales up 1.3% and non-food goods up 6.8%.
Economists say the rise in fuel spending reflects both higher consumption and modest price growth, as the country’s vehicle fleet and intercity mobility continue to expand.
