The Zangezur Corridor is a large-scale project that brings together several strategic transport routes, Elchin Amirbayov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, said in an interview with Poland’s TVP World.
Amirbayov noted that the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) – an agreement on whose implementation was reached following the Washington summit in August this year – is an integral part of the broader Zangezur Corridor framework.
“The Zangezur Corridor will serve several objectives at once,” Amirbayov said. “First, it will connect mainland Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan. It will also reconnect Armenia and Azerbaijan after three decades. In addition, it will become one of the alternative routes linking Asia and Europe.”

He described the corridor as a critical element of regional transport connectivity that could significantly increase trade volumes between Asia and Europe in both directions.
“Since we want lasting peace in the South Caucasus, both sides – Baku and Yerevan – agreed, with the support of the United States, that peace must deliver equal economic benefits and tangible results,” Amirbayov said.
“Ultimately, this could lead to a degree of economic interdependence between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which could function as a single economic space.”
According to the presidential envoy, 2025 is set to become a turning point in relations between Baku and Yerevan, and more broadly for the entire South Caucasus.
“After three decades of conflict, rivalry and confrontation, Armenia and Azerbaijan have decided to build peace,” he said. “The Washington summit on August 8 was a crucial moment when leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a durable and irreversible peace. We see this as only the beginning of a long-term relationship.”
Amirbayov stressed that the core cause of the conflict – territorial claims by Armenia against Azerbaijan – has been resolved. Following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, Baku proposed launching work on a peace agreement.
“After two and a half years of discussions, the parties agreed on the text of the draft peace agreement in March 2025,” he said.
He also emphasized that the Washington summit produced important trilateral understandings between Azerbaijan, Armenia and the United States, aimed at delivering mutual economic benefits for all three sides.
