Azerbaijan recorded its highest-ever electricity demand on August 6 at 3:00 p.m., reaching 4,871 MW, according to the state energy company Azerenerji.
Daily electricity consumption has also risen, now averaging around 100 million kWh. The company attributed the surge not only to extreme heat, high humidity, and widespread use of cooling systems and entertainment facilities, but also to the country’s rapid economic growth, industrial expansion, housing construction, and overall sectoral development.
For comparison, during the summer of 2018, when air temperatures reached 40–42°C, peak demand stood at 3,625 MW — an increase of more than 1,200 MW over seven years.
In response to rising loads, and under presidential directives, Azerenerji has expanded generation capacity, built new substations, and introduced modern SCADA systems, relay protection, emergency automation, frequency control, and upgraded reactive power compensation systems. The company says it can now fully meet domestic demand and produce surplus electricity for export.
