Baku, July 9 — Azerbaijan’s Central Bank has dismissed circulating rumors that the euro has surged to 2.50 manats, warning the public to rely only on official sources for exchange rate information.

The rumors, which spread rapidly across social media and messaging platforms, appear to have stemmed from inaccurate search results displayed on Google, leading many users to believe the euro had sharply appreciated against the manat.
In his statement Namig Aliyev, head of the Central Bank’s press service, urged the public to consult the bank’s official website for up-to-date and verified exchange rates.
“We publish the official exchange rate daily on our website. These are the only figures that should be considered valid,” Aliyev said.
As of July 9, the official exchange rate for the euro is 1.9911 AZN, according to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan — far from the speculated figure of 2.50 AZN.
The incident underscores the risks of misinformation in digital platforms and highlights the importance of verifying financial data through trusted institutional channels.
