Azerbaijan’s Amina Tagi Defeats Armenian Rival to Win Junior European Boxing Gold

BAKU, July 18, 2025 — Azerbaijani boxer Amina Tagi delivered a standout performance at the Junior European Boxing Championships in Novi Pazar, Serbia, clinching gold after a decisive victory over a two-time European champion from Armenia.

Head coach of the Azerbaijani women’s and youth boxing teams, Ilkin Aghayev, confirmed to Report that Tagi entered the final with a clear goal: to defeat her Armenian opponent.

“During our pre-fight talk, Amina told me she was especially determined to beat the Armenian boxer,” said Aghayev. “She had trained hard and was mentally ready. Thank God, she fulfilled her goal.”

Aghayev noted that the team had completed the first stage of their training in Sheki, followed by intensive technical and tactical preparation at the Baku Boxing Center.

While praising Tagi’s performance, the coach acknowledged that some other team members did not meet expectations, but expressed confidence in future improvements.

Team Azerbaijan wrapped up the championship with a total of 13 medals:

  • 1 Gold: Amina Tagi (50 kg)

  • 4 Silver: Jamila Muradli (52 kg), Fidan Bakarova (63 kg), Syama Abbasova (66 kg),

  • 8 Bronze: Gardash Ragimov (46 kg), Magomed Rasulov (50 kg), Raul Heydarli (54 kg), Shahin Aslanov (60 kg), Khagverdi Hasanov (63 kg), Aylin Nazarova (46 kg), Gulyar Huseynova (48 kg), Zahra Mammadova (54 kg)

Aghayev said the team will aim for more golds in upcoming tournaments.
