Azerbaijani Wrestlers Bring Home Six Medals from Tournaments in Russia

Azerbaijan’s freestyle wrestling team returned with six medals from two traditional tournaments held this weekend in the Russian Federation.

According to Report, the most notable performance came in Vladikavkaz, where Magomedkhan Magomedov competed for the first time in the 125 kg weight class at the memorial tournament dedicated to two-time Olympic champion Soslan Andiyev.

Despite the shift to a heavier division, Magomedov dominated the field and captured the gold medal, marking an impressive debut at his new weight.

Meanwhile, in Khasavyurt, Azerbaijani wrestlers also delivered a strong showing at the Shamil Umahanov Memorial Tournament. Murad Evloyev (74 kg), Ali Tsokaev (86 kg) and Osman Nurmagomedov (97 kg) each secured silver medals after advancing to their respective finals.

Gadzhimurad Omarov (74 kg) and Mukhammad Gantemirov (125 kg) added two bronzes to the team’s tally.

Both tournaments traditionally attract strong regional and international competitors, making this combined six-medal result a solid outing for the Azerbaijani delegation.
