Azerbaijan’s young taekwondo athletes delivered an impressive performance at the European Youth Championship in Aigle, Switzerland, capturing five medals across multiple weight categories.
On the third day of competition, Eljan Aliyev (78 kg) dominated the field and secured a gold medal after confidently overcoming all of his opponents. Another Azerbaijani athlete, Vasif Salimov (68 kg), earned a silver medal, further strengthening the team’s overall result.
These achievements bring Azerbaijan’s total medal count at the championship to five. Earlier in the tournament, Ilyas Ghatamli (48 kg) won gold, while Mehdi Budagly (45 kg) and Novruz Aliyev (51 kg) claimed bronze.
Azerbaijan topped the overall boys’ team standings and was awarded the championship cup. Ilyas Ghatamli, the 48-kg gold medalist, was named Best Athlete of the Tournament, and Azerbaijani international referee Aygul Abdullayeva received the award for Best Female Referee of the competition.
The results mark a standout performance for Azerbaijan’s youth team on the European stage.
