Social media has been buzzing with claims that Azerbaijan is headed for an unusually harsh winter marked by severe frost. But how accurate are these predictions?
According to KhazarTV, the National Hydrometeorological Service has dismissed the rumors, saying there is no indication of extreme cold spells in the coming months. While temperatures in December will naturally be lower than in November, officials stress that nothing unusual or alarming is expected.
Gulshad Mammadova, director of the service’s Forecast Bureau, said the average monthly temperature is expected to remain close to the climatic norm, with a slight positive deviation – meaning slightly warmer than usual, not colder.
For December 1, meteorologists forecast partly cloudy skies and mostly dry weather for Baku and the Absheron Peninsula. In other regions, light rainfall remains possible.
Overall, experts say Azerbaijanis should prepare for a typical winter, not the extreme freeze circulating online.
