An Azerbaijani citizen has been sentenced to seven years in prison for joining and participating in an illegal armed group outside the country.
According to APA, the case against Elkhan Ibragimov was investigated by the State Security Service (SSS) and heard at the Sheki Grave Crimes Court under Judge Khalig Mammadov.
Prosecutors said Ibragimov joined an unlawful armed formation in a foreign state, took part in military training, and later participated in the group’s armed security activities.
The court found him guilty under Articles 12.1 and 218.2 (participation in a criminal organization or gang) and Articles 12.1 and 279.1 (creation or participation in illegal armed formations) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, sentencing him to seven years’ imprisonment.
