Azerbaijani judoka Ushangi Kokauri has secured a bronze medal at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, adding another strong result to the national team’s international season.
Competing in the +100 kg category, Kokauri defeated Dutch athlete Jur Spijkers with an ippon in the decisive bronze-medal bout, earning a place on the tournament podium, Trend reported.
Several other members of the Azerbaijani squad also delivered notable performances. Ahmed Yusifov (60 kg), Murad Fatiev (90 kg), and Jamal Gamzatkhanov (+100 kg) each finished in fifth place.
Officials noted that Fatiev, who won his first three fights and entered the semifinal in strong form, was unable to continue competing due to an injury sustained during the bout.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam is one of the key events on the International Judo Federation calendar, attracting many of the world’s top competitors.
