Tbilisi, August 31, 2025 – Azerbaijani athletes delivered strong performances at an international MMA tournament held in Georgia’s capital, organized by the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA).
Azerbaijan was represented by five fighters – Rasul Rahimov, Fagan Rizayev, Yusif Gasimov, Vasif Ahlimanov, and Musa Musazade. In a highlight of the competition, Yusif Gasimov and Rasul Rahimov defeated their Georgian opponents, bringing home victories for the national squad.
Head coach Farid Alibabazade praised the team’s readiness:
“We prepared thoroughly for this tournament. Our goal was to return home with victories and bring joy to our people.”
Rahimov, who emerged victorious in his bout, added that he had trained with full dedication for the fight.
Tournament organizer Giga Kukhalashvili, head of GAMMA Georgia, stressed the wider significance of such events:
“Fighters may face each other as rivals in the ring, but outside of it they build friendships. This strengthens ties between both nations.”
The Tbilisi tournament not only showcased Azerbaijan’s rising talent in MMA but also highlighted the role of sports in fostering cross-border cooperation and friendship.
