MOSCOW, July 19 — The Azerbaijani diaspora organization in Russia’s Moscow Region is likely to be dissolved amid growing pressure and disinterest from within the community, according to its former chairman Elshan Ibrahimov.
In comments to Gazeta.ru, Ibrahimov, who was recently stripped of Russian citizenship and deported for allegedly posing a threat to national security, said: “The diaspora will most likely be disbanded, because under the current circumstances, no one wants to continue working.”
The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Moscow and Baku following recent diplomatic and community-level incidents. Ibrahimov did not elaborate on the specific reasons for the potential closure, but hinted at an atmosphere of fear and disengagement among diaspora members.
