Azerbaijani customs officers have prevented an attempt to illegally transport diamonds worth approximately $250,000 through the country’s air border.
According to the State Customs Committee, officers from the Main Department for Customs Control over Air Transport conducted an inspection of two passengers arriving on a flight from Dubai to Baku.
During the inspection, 120.49 carats of diamonds were discovered hidden inside laptop speakers in one of the passengers’ bags.

In the suitcase of the second passenger, officers found certificates and packaging materials corresponding to the same stones. The diamonds had been deliberately concealed to evade customs control.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
