Azerbaijani Citizen Suspected in Mother-Daughter Killings in Kyiv

Kyiv, Sept. 12

Police have opened a double-murder investigation after the bodies of a 38-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were found with signs of strangulation in a rented apartment in the capital’s Shevchenkivskyi district, authorities said.

According to Kyiv police and the city prosecutor’s office, officers were first called on 10 September to an apparent suicide at a short-term rental on Saksahanskoho Street. Inside, investigators recovered three mobile phones—one belonging to the deceased man and two to a Kyiv woman and her teenage daughter whom a relative had been trying to reach. The pair were later discovered dead at their residence.

Preliminary findings suggest the woman’s partner, a 38-year-old Azerbaijani national who lived in the same building, may be connected to the killings. He is believed to have jumped from the 20th floor of the short-let apartment earlier that day. His identity has not been released.

Prosecutors said juvenile and city prosecutors are supervising the case under Article 115, Part 2, Clause 1 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (premeditated murder of two persons). A series of forensic examinations has been commissioned, and investigators are “working all versions” to establish the sequence of events and any potential accomplices.

Names of the victims have not been made public.
