Azerbaijani and Armenian Speakers Meet in Geneva, Back Continued Dialogue

At the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, the Speakers of the Azerbaijani and Armenian Parliaments, Sahiba Gafarova and Alen Simonyan, held a meeting that both sides described as constructive and forward-looking.

According to Report and Armenian parliamentary sources, the two speakers welcomed the outcomes of the Washington peace summit and affirmed their readiness to maintain dialogue and promote confidence-building measures between the legislative bodies of both countries.

The meeting marks another step in the gradual normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, following the August 8 signing of the Washington Joint Declaration, which paved the way toward a formal peace treaty.

Gafarova and Simonyan emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary diplomacy in supporting the ongoing political process, noting that trust at the institutional level is essential for the long-term stability of the South Caucasus.

The Azerbaijani Milli Majlis later confirmed that the speakers discussed future formats for parliamentary communication and reiterated their support for continuing constructive dialogue within the framework of international organizations.
