Azerbaijan’s young wrestlers delivered a strong performance at the U20 European Championship held in Caorle, Italy, securing both gold and silver medals, according to the Wrestling Federation’s press service.
Vasif Baghirov Shines with Gold
Competing in the 57 kg category, Vasif Baghirov emerged as European champion after a hard-fought final against Georgia’s Nika Zangaladze. Despite trailing 5–6 at the end of the first period, the Ganja Wrestling School athlete rallied after the break to take control and clinch a 9–6 victory. The gold marks a significant upgrade from last year’s silver medal finish at the same championship.
Muradxan Omarov Claims Silver in Debut

In the 79 kg weight class, debutant Muradxan Omarov faced a tough opponent in Georgian wrestler Davit Chechelashvili. Representing the Shamakhi Wrestling School, Omarov was unable to mount a challenge in the final and suffered a 0–10 defeat, settling for a silver medal in his first major continental competition.
Ravan Musayev Narrowly Misses Bronze
In the 97 kg division, Ravan Musayev started strong in the repechage round with a commanding 7–0 win over Hungary’s Peter Szinovszki. However, he fell short in the bronze medal bout, losing 0–6 to Russia’s Magomedgadji Magomedov, and left the tournament without a podium finish.
