Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Deepen Strategic Partnership at High-Level Summit

Turkmenbashi, August 22 — The leaders of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan met in Turkmenbashi for a high-level trilateral summit, pledging to strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties across the Caspian region.

President Ilham Aliyev underlined the historic bonds between the Azerbaijani and Turkmen peoples, describing them as “brothers who for centuries lived and created as one family.” He welcomed Turkmenistan’s gift of a new mosque to be built in Fizuli, as well as Uzbekistan’s initiative of a textile factory employing hundreds of women in the Karabakh region.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Aliyev on the recent signing of the “Agreement on Peace and Interstate Relations” with Armenia in Washington, calling it a milestone for stability in the South Caucasus. He proposed new cooperation on Caspian offshore exploration, energy transit, and a roadmap for boosting trade and industrial cooperation.

The summit produced several agreements, including a joint declaration, air transport protocols, expanded shipbuilding cooperation, and plans for closer logistics integration. A twinning agreement was also signed between Fizuli and the newly built Turkmen city of Arkadag.

Aliyev emphasized that new East–West corridors through Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan would strengthen connectivity from Europe to Asia, while cultural cooperation — from horse breeding to traditional crafts — remains a pillar of friendship.
