Azerbaijan’s junior judo team has claimed first place among 43 nations at the European Junior Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced.
The team finished the tournament with two gold medals and one bronze. On the opening day, Nihad Mamishev (60 kg) and Mahammad Musayev (66 kg) triumphed over all opponents to secure gold. Nizami Imranov (66 kg) added a bronze, marking his third consecutive podium finish at a continental event.
For Mamishev, already a two-time world junior champion, this was his first-ever European gold. Musayev also made history as Azerbaijan’s first junior European champion in the 66 kg weight category.
Other Azerbaijani competitors placed just outside the medal standings: Farid Karayev (60 kg) finished fifth, while Abil Yusubov came seventh.
With its haul, Azerbaijan topped the men’s team standings, outpacing dozens of countries across Europe.
