Azerbaijan will receive 325,000 neonatal screening tests as part of a nationwide effort to improve maternal and child health and expand mandatory health examinations for newborns.
According to Iqtisadiyyat.az, the Center for Innovation and Supply under TABIB has placed an order for the tests, which will be supplied by Albatros Healthcare at a total cost of 2.5 million manats.
Neonatal screening is a medical procedure that allows early detection of genetic and metabolic disorders in newborns, enabling timely treatment and prevention of serious complications.
In Azerbaijan, screening currently includes tests for:
Phenylketonuria (PKU)
Biotinidase deficiency (BE)
Congenital hypothyroidism (CH)
Cystic fibrosis (CF)
Health authorities say the new delivery will strengthen the country’s capacity for early diagnosis and ensure that all newborns receive timely genetic screening within the national healthcare system.
