SAMOKOV, Bulgaria – Azerbaijani wrestler Ruzanna Mammadova earned a silver medal at the U-20 World Wrestling Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria — marking the biggest achievement of her young career.
Competing in the 62 kg category, Mammadova fought her way to the final with a series of strong victories. In the gold medal bout, she faced China’s Yangzhen Yangzhen and narrowly lost by the last-point rule in a 6-6 thriller. Despite the defeat, Mammadova’s silver highlights her emergence as one of Azerbaijan’s most promising young wrestlers on the international stage.
Earlier in the tournament, fellow Azerbaijani wrestler Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) added to the team’s success by securing a bronze medal. With two podium finishes, Azerbaijan’s women wrestlers demonstrated their growing strength in world competition.
