Baku, July 22, 2025 — Many Azerbaijani citizens reaching retirement age are often uncertain about where to apply for a pension, which documents are needed, and how the process works. This confusion can lead to stress and delays. However, authorities emphasize that the pension assignment process has now been greatly simplified—and in most cases, no application is even required.
The Azerbaijani men become eligible to receive a pension at the age of 65. For women, the retirement age has been set at 64 years and 6 months for the period between July 1, 2025, and July 1, 2026.
If an individual has accumulated sufficient pension capital in their personal account to meet the minimum pension threshold, they are entitled to receive a pension without the need to meet any additional work experience requirements. However, if the capital falls short, a minimum of 25 years of insurance experience is required to qualify.
Since 2019, Azerbaijan has implemented an automated system for pension assignments. This means that when a person reaches pension age, their pension is automatically calculated and granted based on data already available in the national electronic system—without the need for any application or document submission.
In cases where a pension is not automatically granted, individuals must apply in person. Applications can be submitted at the State Social Protection Fund (SSPF), DOST centers, or other designated coordination centers. Applicants must provide specific documents, including a national ID card and proof of work history such as an employment record book, military ID, or educational diploma. If the application is submitted by a representative, a valid power of attorney and the representative’s ID are also required.
The automated approach is intended to streamline the process, reduce bureaucracy, and ensure that all eligible citizens receive their pensions with minimal hassle.
