Azerbaijan’s elderly population has grown significantly over the past decade, according to new data from the Ministry of Health.
Speaking at a briefing, Nailya Ahmedova, acting director of the Baku City Gerontology Center, said the number of residents aged 60 and above in the capital has increased by 8 percent over the last ten years.
“In 2015, seniors made up around 10 percent of Baku’s population. Today that figure has reached 18 percent,” she noted. “Across the country, the share of people aged 60 and older now stands at 15.5 percent, compared to 9 percent a decade ago.”
