According to the Ministry of Economy, the vehicle was produced through the Semi Knocked Down (SKD) method of large-unit assembly. Officials emphasized that the project not only strengthens Azerbaijan’s industrial capacity but also supports technology transfer, workforce development, and the government’s broader “green energy and transport” agenda.

Deputy Minister of Economy Samed Bashirli, Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei, BYD CEO Tian Chunlong, and BakuBus director Shahin Hasanov attended the unveiling.

The plant, created through a joint initiative of the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund under the Ministry of Economy, SARDA Group, and BYD, plans to expand production in the future. Beyond city buses, upcoming models are expected to include various passenger capacities as well as electric trucks, utility vehicles, and cars.

Officials highlighted the project as a successful example of Azerbaijani–Chinese cooperation and a significant step toward reducing urban emissions while modernizing the country’s transport sector.
