Azerbaijan recorded a sharp rise in bank card fraud in the third quarter of 2025, with domestic fraudulent transactions reaching 1.185 million manats, a 3.4-fold increase compared to the previous quarter.
According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, the number of fraudulent incidents inside the country also jumped significantly — up 3.9 times to 7,669 cases.
In contrast, the total value of fraudulent transactions carried out abroad fell by 28.4%, dropping to 308,668 manats, although the number of overseas fraud cases increased by 59.6%, reaching 3,668 incidents.
Regulators note that most domestic fraud cases stem from cardholders voluntarily sharing personal information with cybercriminals, often during phishing attempts or fake customer-service calls.
Authorities urge the public to avoid providing card details, SMS codes, or PIN numbers to anyone, emphasizing that banks never request such information by phone or online.
