Azerbaijan Rejects Claims That “Western Azerbaijan” Implies Territorial Demands

The issue of Western Azerbaijan concerns the rights of Western Azerbaijanis and should not be interpreted as a territorial claim against Armenia, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a year-end press conference.

Bayramov said Azerbaijan has carried out extensive work in recent years on the international stage to promote the right of return of Western Azerbaijanis and has made tangible progress.

“Attempts are sometimes made to shift this issue into a different context and present it as a territorial claim against Armenia. There are absolutely no grounds for this. This is about the legitimate rights of Western Azerbaijanis,” the foreign minister said.
