Azerbaijan Overhauls Diplomatic Corps With New Global Appointments

President Ilham Aliyev has appointed new ambassadors to several countries, marking one of the most significant diplomatic reshuffles in recent years.

According to Report, Farid Talibov has been named Azerbaijan’s new ambassador to Japan, replacing Gursel Ismayilzade, who has been recalled from the post.

In a separate decree, Eldar Salimov, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Jordan, has been reassigned as ambassador to Iraq. Meanwhile, Shahin Abdullayev, previously ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Azerbaijan’s permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has been appointed as the new ambassador to Jordan.

Mutallim Mirzoyev has been appointed ambassador to Saudi Arabia, according to another presidential order.

Additionally, Mamed Talibov was recalled from his position as Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Mexico and several Latin American countries – including Honduras, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, and Peru. Seymur Fataliyev has been appointed to succeed him as ambassador to Mexico.

At the consular level, Aliannagi Huseynov has been released from his duties as Consul General in Tabriz (Iran). He will be replaced by Taleh Zohrabov, who has been appointed the new Consul General.

The latest series of diplomatic appointments and rotations highlight Baku’s continued efforts to strengthen its representation abroad and adapt its foreign service to evolving geopolitical realities.
