Azerbaijan is weighing the introduction of differential water tariffs to curb waste and promote more efficient consumption, a senior official said Tuesday.
Ilham Bayramov, deputy chairman of the State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA), told reporters that no proposals on raising water prices have yet been submitted to the Tariff Council. Instead, the focus is on designing a system where charges vary by consumption levels.
“The aim is to prevent waste and to apply differentiated tariffs depending on the volume of use,” Bayramov explained.
He noted that the proposals were developed after studying the experience of dozens of countries and incorporating recommendations from international consulting firms.
Draft versions will be submitted to the government, the Cabinet of Ministers, and the Tariff Council, and will also be opened to public consultation.
