Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia have signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening long-term cooperation and improving the efficiency of the western branch of the International North–South Transport Corridor.
As APA-Economics reported, the document outlines coordinated tariff policies, the creation of a unified integrated tariff, the launch of regular block trains and the streamlining of freight-transport procedures. These steps are expected to build a more predictable, faster and cost-efficient logistics chain among the three countries while reinforcing their position in international transport corridors.
The signing coincided with the 83rd meeting of the Council for Railway Transport of CIS Member States, held in Baku. The participants reviewed the performance of the CIS railway network over the first nine months of 2025, the development of international passenger services, the formation of freight and container trains, improvements to major transport corridors, tariff policy for 2026, financing issues, and ongoing research programs.
Special emphasis was placed on enhancing transparency and synchronization of logistics processes across the region. Delegates highlighted that coordinated tariffs for 2026 will be crucial to maintaining competitiveness and optimizing transit flows on major international routes.
A final protocol reflecting the outcomes of the meeting was signed at the end of the session.
