Azerbaijan Expands Logistics Ties with China with New Freight Hub

July 22, 2025 – Baku / Beijing

Azerbaijani freight carriers have opened a new logistics center in China, marking a significant step in deepening trade and transport links between the two countries, according to a senior industry official.

Kenan Gurbanov, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan International Road Carriers Association (ABADA), told Report that the launch comes in the wake of the recently established visa-free travel regime between Baku and Beijing — a move that has already led to increased cargo volumes along routes connecting Turkey, Central Asia, and China.

“In the past, drivers had to wait a long time to get entry visas to China,” Gurbanov said. “Now, with the visa requirement lifted, the process is much faster and more efficient.”

He noted that Azerbaijani drivers are now able to deliver goods directly into mainland China, without having to rely on intermediaries at border crossings — a shift that significantly streamlines logistics and reduces costs.

“Several Azerbaijani companies already operate logistics centers in China,” Gurbanov added, underscoring growing business interest in expanding Azerbaijan’s role as a key transit hub in Eurasian trade corridors.

The development reinforces Azerbaijan’s strategic ambitions to serve as a bridge between Europe and Asia, particularly amid shifting global supply chain dynamics.
