Freight traffic along Azerbaijan’s rail segment of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) grew by 6% in the first nine months of 2025, reaching 2.65 million tons, according to AZCON Holding.
During the same period, container handling at the Port of Baku increased by 40%, totaling 77,000 TEU. The Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) also reported a 70% rise in dry cargo shipments, which reached 1.02 million tons.
Meanwhile, tanker shipments rose by 11%, amounting to 3.35 million tons, and cargo transport beyond the Caspian region surged by 191% to 1.1 million tons, underscoring the growing international reach of Azerbaijan’s maritime logistics.
In 2024, freight volumes along the Trans-Caspian route increased by 62%, reaching 4.5 million tons. Forecasts for 2025 suggest further growth to 5.2 million tons, with 4.2 million tons expected to move through the corridor’s participating countries. Of that, 2.5 million tons will be dry cargo (96,000 TEU) and 1.7 million tons oil shipments.
By 2027, the annual capacity of the Middle Corridor could reach 10 million tons, enhancing Azerbaijan’s role as a key Eurasian transit hub and boosting foreign investment in transport and logistics infrastructure.
