Azerbaijan’s junior boxing team wrapped up a strong showing at the European Junior Boxing Championships in Novi Pazar with another medal, this time silver.
Competing in the +80 kg weight category, Safdar Mamedzade faced Russia’s Bogdan Smolkin in a closely contested final bout. Despite a spirited performance, Mamedzade narrowly lost on points — 2:3 (26:30, 28:28, 28:28, 26:30, 27:29) — and secured the silver medal.
According to the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation, the national team concluded the tournament with a total of 13 medals: one gold, four silver, and eight bronze — earning them third place in the overall team rankings.
Amina Taghi led the team with a gold medal in the 50 kg category, becoming European champion. Silver medals were also claimed by Jamila Muradli (52 kg), Fidan Bakarova (63 kg), and Syama Abbasova (66 kg), alongside Mamedzade.
Bronze medals went to Gardash Ragimov (46 kg), Muhammad Rasulov (50 kg), Raul Heydarli (54 kg), Shahin Aslanov (60 kg), Khagverdi Hasanov (63 kg), Aylin Nazarova (46 kg), Gulyar Guseynova (48 kg), and Zahra Mamedova (54 kg).
The result marks another milestone for Azerbaijan’s youth boxing program, which continues to produce podium finishes at major European events.
