Azerbaijan is taking its relations with the United States to the level of a strategic partnership, Presidential Assistant and Head of the Foreign Policy Department Hikmet Hajiyev said in an interview with Baku TV.
Hajiyev recalled that during President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Washington on August 8, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at upgrading bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.
.
“One of the provisions of the memorandum is the establishment of a joint working group between Azerbaijan and the United States to develop proposals on the agenda and content of the strategic partnership,” Hajiyev explained.
According to him, the U.S. State Department’s recent statement confirmed the creation of the U.S.–Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership Working Group, which mirrors a similar structure already established in Baku. “Azerbaijan has submitted its proposals to the U.S. side,” he said.
The memorandum envisions cooperation in a wide range of fields, including energy, transport, artificial intelligence, high technologies, defense, and security, among others.
Hajiyev also commented on the upcoming European Political Community Summit in Yerevan, noting that Azerbaijan has not yet received an official invitation.
“Given the current circumstances, we do not believe participation at the highest level will be possible,” he said.
