Azerbaijan and Qatar have officially launched their Joint Business Council, marking a significant step toward expanding economic, investment, and private-sector cooperation between the two countries.
The first meeting of the Council took place in Doha as part of the 4th session of the Azerbaijan–Qatar Joint Economic, Trade and Technical Commission.
The event was co-chaired by Mohammed bin Jawhar Al Mohammed, Board Member of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA).
The session brought together senior officials from both sides, including Azerbaijan’s Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, and Deputy Chairman of the Qatar Chamber Mohammed bin Towar Al-Kuwari.
Focus on Investment, Agriculture, Tourism, Technology
Participants discussed a broad agenda of opportunities for cooperation between business communities, with an emphasis on agriculture, tourism, technology, logistics, energy, food security, and other promising sectors.
Qatar’s co-chair Mohammed bin Jawhar Al Mohammed said the launch of the Council reflects the two countries’ shared ambition to deepen economic and trade ties and create a stable platform for long-term collaboration. He noted growing Qatari interest in the Azerbaijani market.
Orkhan Mammadov stressed that the Council will serve as a central mechanism for communication between entrepreneurs, allowing both sides to explore joint venture opportunities, promote products and services, and identify new investment niches. He also highlighted the strong participation of Azerbaijani companies – more than 30 – which he described as evidence of private-sector interest.
Support for Investors and Free Economic Zone Alat
Azerbaijan presented its investment opportunities, placing special emphasis on the Alat Free Economic Zone, which offers incentives for foreign investors. KOBİA reaffirmed readiness to support Qatari businesses considering entry into the Azerbaijani market.
Qatar Chamber Deputy Chairman Mohammed bin Towar Al-Kuwari announced that the Chamber stands prepared to assist businesses from both countries, describing the Council as a “bridge” creating new avenues for investment, trade and sectoral partnerships.
A Growing Partnership
Officials emphasized that Azerbaijan–Qatar relations have strengthened across multiple areas in recent years, supported by a widening framework of agreements and strategic cooperation. The new Business Council is expected to become a key driver of joint projects and a catalyst for deeper engagement between private-sector actors.
