President Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday received the credentials of newly appointed French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Sophie Lagoutte, marking what both sides described as the start of a new phase in Azerbaijan–France relations, Report said.
During the meeting, Ambassador Lagoutte presented her credentials to the head of state. President Aliyev recalled his recent meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Copenhagen, noting that “issues which once caused misunderstanding between the two countries have been left behind.”
The Azerbaijani leader emphasized that a new period has begun in the bilateral agenda, underlining the importance of reviving people-to-people ties, expanding business contacts, and strengthening cooperation in culture and humanitarian affairs.
Ambassador Lagoutte said that a “new page” had indeed opened in relations between Azerbaijan and France, and pledged to work actively to deepen bilateral cooperation.
The meeting also touched on the successful development of cooperation in various fields, including high technology and the aerospace industry, as well as the energy sector, where Azerbaijan and France enjoy longstanding partnership through TotalEnergies.
Both sides agreed on the importance of resuming the work of the Intergovernmental Commission, revitalizing twin-city partnerships, and organizing mutual business visits to encourage French participation in new projects in Azerbaijan.
The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties across multiple spheres, reaffirming the mutual interest in stability and development.
