UPDATED – Report Claims Unpublished Mehdiyev Letter Found During Search at Ali Karimli’s Home; APFP Says Letter Was Planted

New details have emerged following the search conducted by the State Security Service (SSS) at the home of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) chairman Ali Karimli.

According to a report by ayna.az, investigators allegedly found documents suggesting links to the so-called “Union of Billionaires,” as well as what the outlet described as an early draft of a letter attributed to Ramiz Mehdiyev that was never made public. The site also reported that other materials were seized.

These claims have not been independently verified, and the SSS has not issued a statement confirming them.

Former presidential administration chief Ramiz Mehdiyev remains under investigation on charges of attempting to seize power, high treason, and money laundering.

APFP: Letter Was Planted During the Search

In response, APFP deputy chairman Fuad Gahramanli published a statement alleging that security officers placed the letter inside Karimli’s desk drawer shortly before announcing it had been “discovered.”

He claimed officers knocked on the door pretending to be a neighbor before entering the apartment, and that the discovery was staged. These statements represent the party’s position and have not been corroborated by independent sources.

The State Security Service has not commented on these allegations.

Investigative actions reportedly continue.

A search was carried out at the home of Ali Karimli, chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), as part of an ongoing investigation by the State Security Service (SSS).

The information was reported by Report. According to initial details, Karimli was not officially detained, though his residence was examined by investigators.

The investigation is linked to the criminal case involving former presidential administration chief Ramiz Mehdiyev. On October 14, the Sabail District Court of Baku placed Mehdiyev under four months of house arrest on charges of attempting to seize power (Article 278.1), high treason (Article 274), and money laundering (Article 193-1.3.2).

Report also noted that a search was conducted at the residence of APFP Presidium member Mammad Ibrahim.

Party’s Statement

In a statement issued later, the APFP claimed that:

  • Ali Karimli was “taken to the State Security Service” following the search;

  • Mammad Ibrahim was also searched and “detained”;

  • several other party activists were allegedly detained as well.

The party described the actions as “politically motivated” and accused the authorities of attempting to “eliminate the last independent political force in the country.” It called for the immediate release of all detained members and urged international organizations and democratic governments to react.

Official Comments Pending

As of now, the State Security Service has not issued an official statement confirming any detention of Ali Karimli. Investigative procedures are said to be ongoing.
