Australia Establishes Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group with Azerbaijan

A new Australia-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group has been formally established in the Federal Parliament of Australia, coinciding with Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations.

According to the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Australia, the initiative marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral dialogue and cooperation between the two countries’ legislatures.

The group is co-chaired by Hon. Mike Freelander, Chair of the Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability (Labor), and Hon. Rick Wilson, Deputy Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Trade and Investment (Liberal).

The diplomatic mission noted that the friendship group also includes several senior Australian leaders – among them Senate President Senator Hon. Sue Lines and Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Milton Dick – as well as other distinguished parliamentarians from both chambers.

The formation of the group reflects Australia’s growing engagement with Azerbaijan and the shared commitment to expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, education, and multicultural dialogue.
