Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was re-elected chairman of the ruling Civil Contract party at its congress on Saturday. According to preliminary tallies announced at the venue, Pashinyan received the highest vote total among 41 candidates for party leadership bodies. He cited party rules that allow 24 hours for objections and a manual review, noting results remain preliminary.
An electronic board at the hall at one point displayed a higher figure (826) than the count read out for Pashinyan (758), and a manual recount was reported to be under way.
More than 6,000 party members took part in the secret ballot. Gevork Papoyan (economy minister) and Vaagn Aleksanyan (Civil Contract MP) were named as deputy chairs of the board on a preliminary basis.
Local coverage offered conflicting early lists of top vote-getters for the party board. Names shown on the electronic display reportedly included Suren Papikyan, Hayk Konjoryan, Araik Harutyunyan, Ruben Rubinyan, Arsen Torosyan, Romanos Petrosyan, David Khudatyan, Alen Simonyan, Alkhas Kazaryan, Arusyak Julhakyan, Vilen Gabrielyan, Asmik Akopyan, Gnel Sanosyan, Tigran Avinyan, Armen Khachatryan, Nazeli Baghdasaryan, Sasun Mikaelyan, and Garnik Sargsyan – while other reports said Avinyan and Mikaelyan were not entering the new board. The final composition is expected after the 24-hour review window closes.
