Armenian Minister: Nothing ‘Tragic’ in Paraphased Peace Deal with Azerbaijan

The recently paraphased peace agreement with Azerbaijan contains nothing “tragic or ominous” for Yerevan, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan told reporters, according to Armenian media.

“Earlier, there were all sorts of grim predictions about the text of the peace treaty. But after its recent publication, it became clear that there is nothing terrible, tragic, or ominous in it for Yerevan,” Khudatyan said.

According to the minister, Armenia stands to gain from the agreement through the reopening of transport routes while preserving its territorial integrity and sovereignty — a factor he described as vital for the country’s development.

He added that the implementation of the signed documents would begin soon, with the creation of dedicated working groups.

The deal was initialed in Washington on August 8, when the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, in the presence of the U.S. president, signed a joint declaration consisting of seven points. One of its provisions covers the launch of the Zangezur Corridor (“Trump Route”) as part of regional transport unblocking. The foreign ministers of both countries also paraphased the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations.”
