Current Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Narek Mkrtchyan, is set to become the country’s ambassador to the United States, replacing Lilit Makunts.
This was reported by Armenian media citing sources.
According to the media, the agrement for his appointment has already been approved. It is noted that Mkrtchyan’s brother resides in the United States.
The Ministry will be headed by the head of the “Civil Contract” party faction in the Yerevan City Council, Gyumri Sarik Minasyan. In March, his candidacy was proposed by the ruling party for the position of mayor of Gyumri, but as a result of the elections, Vardan Gukasyan became the mayor of the city. Minasyan had previously worked as the director of the Territorial Center of the Unified Social Service in Gyumri.
