Armenia Ranked Highest in Drinking Water Quality in the South Caucasus

Yerevan, July 18, 2025 — Armenia has been recognized as having the cleanest drinking water among the countries of the South Caucasus, according to the latest Environmental Performance Index (EPI) rankings.

In the global index, which assessed 180 countries, Armenia secured 47th place, ahead of its regional neighbors. Georgia ranked 52nd, Azerbaijan 106th, Turkey 72nd, and Russia 46th.

The Environmental Performance Index, compiled by Yale and Columbia Universities in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, evaluates countries based on a range of environmental indicators, including air and water quality, biodiversity, and climate policy.

Armenia’s high placement reflects significant progress in water resource management and environmental regulation, positioning it as a regional leader in terms of safe and clean drinking water access.
